Basset Hound
These are of the hound breed. They are also well known for their sense of smell. When compared to the bloodhound the basset hound is rather low in its sense of scent tracking. However it is considered to be the second best in this particular field hunting through scent. They are about thirty three to thirty eight cms at the shoulders and weigh about fifty to seventy labs. They are usually available in three colors i.e. black, tan and white. They have pendulous ears and powerful necks with wrinkly and saggy face with long upright tails. It is a big dog with small legs. They are the calm types which are socially friendly and known for their pleasant disposition. They are eager top make new friends with other dogs and as such make excellent pets with families and children. Since bassets don’t like to be left alone it is always recommended that a second pet should be kept to keep the basset out of trouble. They are difficult to be trained and equally difficult to housebreak. A lot of effort is required to make a basset housebreak. They love human interaction and has to be trained with a promise of reward.
