Black and Tan Coonhound are used mainly for tracking and treeing raccoon. They chase after its prey just by sniffing them. But they are useful in hunting in other games also like beer, boar and bear which have been now banned from hunting. These dogs are very powerful, agile and alert and are combined with the talent to cover ground speedily with powerful rhythmic gait. Every hound has its own characteristic tone and is usually identifiable to the owners from long distance.
