The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog:
The greater Swiss mountain dog is the largest of the dogs of the traditional Swiss herding breeds. These dogs are believed to be brought to be brought to Switzerland by the Romans. These dogs are generally large and muscular. They come in a tricolor of shades. These dogs weigh about 60 to 70 kgs in the males and are about 65 to 72 cms in height. The females of the breed are about 50 to 60 kgs and are about 60 to 68 cms tall. The ratio of height to weight is about ten to nine. The coat of this breed is of considerable quality. Most of the coat is covered in black and there are spots of white and rust in some places. The fur is of double coat as expected and the top coat is about 5 cms long. The bottom coat is thick and gray and is mostly seen around the neck. These dogs shed their coats about twice a year. These dogs are known to be very protective dogs. Also these dogs are very gentle and treat its family members with lot of love and respect. These dogs are excellent with children and love them a lot. These dogs are very strong and agile as well when compared to their size.
