Whippet:

The whippet belongs to the sight hound family and a small slender dog of greyhound type developed in England. They are very popular. They are very athletic dogs and skillful and very determined in hunting any quarry. Whippets are generally very friendly dogs and make excellent pets. Very loyal and trusting it may or may not bark at strangers and so cannot be used as guard dogs but are used in aged homes. They are very preferable for children since they do not snap and are not harmful and are very playful. However they suffer from excessive greeting disorder where the dogs tend to jump, howl and bark excessively after certain duration of separation i.e. about ten minutes. The whippets are around forty four to forty seven cms in height and weighs anywhere between eleven to eighteen kilos. They are apartment life dogs but it also needs regular exercise and the opportunity to run free in open places is compulsory to keep them satisfied. They are excellent running dogs and are used in dog races. Whippets can live for twelve to fifteen years. They have a comparatively large heart which beats slowly and are not rhythmic which attributes to their atypical heart function.
